11th Colloid Chemistry Conference, 28-30 May, 2018

3/9/2018 -

Scope

Colloids are ubiquitous, and their unique properties have been discovered and systematically studied more than one and a half century ago. Starting with the first synthesis of the famous gold sol by Michael Faraday and the pioneering studies of Thomas Graham, the scope of colloid and interface science broadened with a concomitant great progress in the depth of understandingthese complex and sensitive systems. Not only the aforementioned gold nanoparticle dispersions have currently gained renewed interest for nanotechnological applications, but other old-established principles for colloidal stabilization pave way to reach new dimensions in materials science. New fields with indispensable application of colloidal particles such as magnetic nanoparticles in particle imaging, drug delivery and hyperthermia or sensors, smart materials have been rapidly developed. Especially, the role of colloids and the diversity of interfaces found in living organisms have become important in biomedical applications. However, the accumulated knowledge also supports the design and development of smart materials and new formulations in well-known colloidal industries such as paint, agrochemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry. Since 1971, the Hungarian Chemical Society has hosted a series of Conferences in Colloid Chemistry dealing with the topics of current actual scientific and industrial interest. The 11th Conference on Colloid Chemistry will focus on the newest dimensions of colloids. The conference will aim at bringing together experts from different disciplines from academy and industry to discuss the scope and recent progress in the field and stimulate collaborative efforts.

Topics

  • Molecules at interfaces (theoretical aspects, characterization and modification of surfaces, wetting and adhesion, chemical processes on solid surfaces)
  • Dispersions (preparation and characterization of colloidal particles, emulsions and suspensions, environmental colloids)
  • Self-assembled systems (supramolecular surfactant assemblies, Langmuir-Blodgett films and Layer-by-Layer structures, mesoporous coatings)
  • Polymers, macromolecular systems
  • Gels (aerogels, hydrogels, organogels, xerogels, sol-gel processes)
  • Biocolloids (biomedical and pharmaceutical application)
  • Smart colloidal systems (nanostructures and nanocomposites)
  • Applications (food, cosmetics, adhesives, environment, water treatment, etc.)
  • Societal aspects of colloids
